The Central Galleria at Dubai's Mall of the Emirates will be hosting its 12th Annual Stollen Charity Cake Sale on December 7

The 12th Annual Stollen Charity Cake Sale is to take place at Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates on Friday, December 8, in the Central Galleria. The event will be raising money for Emirates Red Crescent, the charity that carries out humanitarian work both here and internationally.

Organisers are aiming to sell a record-breaking amount of Stollen, the festive German cake, which is being touted as the longest string made so far, crafted by a team of 30 chefs at the mall’s Kempinski Hotel. A further 50 volunteers will help with the sale until every last bit has gone.

Pre-sales commence on December 7, in the hotel’s lobby lounge, and the 60cm-long loaves can be bought whole for Dh100, or at Dh5 per slice, with all the proceeds being donated to Red Crescent. The chefs will have spent weeks working around the clock in the lead-up to Friday’s sale, and they’ll have used more than 2,200 eggs, 600kg of flour, nearly 300kg of raisins and 55kg of marzipan to make the stollen. A further 130kg of oranges and 120kg of lemons will have been zested, too, giving the finished product a citrusy tang.

Manager of Emirates Red Crescent, Mohammad Abdullah Al Haj Al Zarouni, said of the event: “In this Year of Giving, we pledge continuous assistance and thank Mall of the Emirates and Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates for their continuous support towards Emirates Red Crescent’s projects, particularly in the field for special needs.” He added that the monies raised will be used to “provide essential education and therapy, as well as assisting parents with annual fees”.

The sale, which starts at 10am, is also being used as a launch pad for the new #KempinskiKares initiative, which has been created to support continued efforts to do more for good causes locally.
