It's no secret that Din Tai Fung is one of the most popular restaurants in the UAE. It's well recorded that the wait for a table at the Mall of the Emirates' Taiwanese restaurant can be in the hours, not just minutes, on particularly busy days.
Well, now there is another Din Tai Fung outlet in town, offering the people of Downtown Dubai a close-by xiao long bao fix.
The eatery opened its doors this week, and can be found on the ground floor of The Dubai Mall's Fashion Avenue extension.
Said to be a more "upmarket" branch of the eatery, the new hotspot has Dubai Fountain views, so guests can enjoy an Andrea Bocelli fountain performance as they tuck into their dumplings or noodles.
Fans of the restaurant are happy to hear about the new opening, hoping that it may reduce the wait time at Mall of the Emirates.
"Hopefully queues at MOE will be smaller," one customer commented on the brand's Instagram announcement of the new restaurant.
Could an Abu Dhabi opening be on the cards?
A number of Din Tai Fung's Instagram followers have asked if an Abu Dhabi outlet is in the Taiwanese restaurant's future plans.
The brand has denied that it is opening up in the capital in the immediate future, but hinted it could happen eventually, commenting: "We’ll take a good note of this", after receiving numerous requests.
What should you order at Din Tai Fung?
The brand dates back to 1958 in Taiwan, and became a fully fledged restaurant in 1972. What you choose to order is, of course, entirely down to personal taste, but Din Tai Fung's roots are as a soup, dumplings and noodles shop. So it is essential, your gluten tolerance willing, to order some of these when you visit.
Xiao long bao are undoubtedly the most popular dish on the menu: these steamed dumplings originate from Shanghai, and are filled with meat as well as a small amount of hot soup.
