Chef Nobu followed in the footsteps of Dubai's earliest dwellers and headed down to Deira Corniche in search of some fresh fish.

Noboyuki 'Nobu' Matsuhisa, who has become globally known simply as Chef Nobu, took a recent tour of the newly opened Waterfront Market in Dubai's historic neighbourhood.

“I am very impressed with the diversity of fresh fish as well as fruit and vegetables on offer at the Waterfront Market. Having opened Nobu Dubai at Atlantis, The Palm, 10 years ago, I can see such a notable improvement on the range of fresh seasonal produce now available in Dubai. There are so many items here that you just couldn’t find 10 years ago.”

People in the UAE have been buying their fish from Deira Fish market for decades. The new purpose-built facility stands on the site of the original fish market, which was established in 1958. The Waterfront Market has taken the concept of a traditional Emirati souq and combined it with the convenience and ease of a modern-day mall.

So as well as buying fresh produce such as fish, meat, poultry, fruit, vegetables and of course dates in a market atmosphere, you can also do the shopping you would do in a mall. There are also live cooking stations where you can get the fish you just bought from the market cooked in front of you.
