Today, three Michelin-starred chef Heinz Beck opens his newest restaurant in Dubai, A Taste of Italy by Heinz Beck, at The Galleria Mall on Al Wasl Road in Jumeirah.
This is Beck’s second restaurant in the emirate, coming 18 months after Social by Heinz Beck opened at the Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah.
A Taste of Italy by Heinz Beck is the first casual restaurant for Beck who has a handful of fine dining restaurants around the world. Since 1994, Beck has been the executive chef at La Pergola, a three Michelin-starred restaurant at the Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria in Italy. It’s the only restaurant in Rome with three Michelin stars and one of just eight restaurants in Italy with three stars.
Beck was born in Germany but has spent most of his career in Italy, after falling in love with the flavours of the country. He says diners can expect to fall in love with those same flavours at his newest restaurant here. “We will do authentic Italian cooking, top quality cooking,” says Beck. “You can get lasagne, but it’s real, proper Italian lasagne like an Italian mother would have cooked 20 years ago. This kind of Italian cooking, unfortunately, does not exist very much anymore. It’s what I like to eat in Italy when I’m not working.”
“A Taste of Italy by Heinz Beck is more accessible to a lot more people,” says Beck. “With a restaurant that’s booked for months like La Pergola in Rome, with just 60 covers, you can’t accommodate a lot of people.”
