Flydubai’s new daily service to Catania is providing tourists something they haven't had before - direct access to southern Italy.

The carrier, in partnership with Emirates Airlines, is the first in the UAE to fly direct to Sicily, eliminating the need for passengers to stopover elsewhere enroute.

Catania is a favoured base for holidaymakers to Sicily. It is the second largest city on the Island and is known for its rich culture, arts and history.

Sicily is home to several museums, monuments and the world-renowned Mount Etna volcano. The island is popular for its beaches and culinary delights, including pasta, seafood and pastries, not to mention its Arab influences.

Flydubai’s inaugural flight landed in Catania earlier this month (June 13) but was officially launched by company executives and tourist operators on Thursday with a cannon salute on the tarmac at Catania-Fontanarossa Airport.

Passengers who travel from Dubai to Catania will do so on flydubai’s new 737 Max 8 aircraft. The new cabin offers Business Class customers flat-bed options, while Economy guests enjoy additional space and comfort.

Jeyhun Efendi, Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations for flydubai, said of the new route: “The convenience of direct flights from Dubai as well as onward connections opens up the world to our passengers.”

The Dubai to Catania service is a daily proposition with flights leaving Dubai International’s Terminal 2 at 8.10am and arriving at Catania-Fontanarossa Airport at 12.15pm (local time). The flight time is six hours. For more go to www.flydubai.com
