See Africa: From Mother to Motherboard, a photo exhibition that focuses on the part that technological advancement has played in displacing tribal life and values, as globalisation and modernity have arrived on the continent. From 10am to 10pm, Sundays to Thursdays; 2pm to 8pm, Saturdays (closed Fridays), The Empty Quarter, Building 2, DIFC Gate Village, Dubai, 04 323 1210, www.theemptyquarter.com

Head to Dubai Marina Mall, where the kids can enjoy Barney’s Festive Show, which features all four characters from the popular series – Barney, BJ, Baby Bop and Riff. The 25-minute shows run at 4.30pm, 6pm and 7.30pm, Dubai Marina Mall, 04 436 1020, www.dubaimarinamall.com

Experience the annual camel beauty pageant at Al Dhafra Festival, which is expected to have 25,000 camels and Dh46 million in prizes. Enjoy races and competitions, plus a heritage market with 180 handicraft stalls. Madinat Zayed, Al Gharbia (Western Region), Abu Dhabi, www.aldhafrafestival.ae

Have the kids write a letter to Santa for a chance to win a family dinner with him at the Sheraton Hotel in Mall of the Emirates. The letters need to state – in words, pictures or stickers – whether the children have been nice or naughty and why they should get a chance to dine with Santa. Post it at Ski Dubai or on www.facebook.com/skidxb

Book a festive meal at St Tropez Bistro in Mall of the Emirates on December 24 and 25. The menu features chargrilled scallops, roast turkey and Christmas pudding with chocolate sauce. St Tropez Bistro, behind Ski Dubai, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai, 04 341 3415, reservations@sttropez.ae
