The Dubai Fitness Challenge aims to get the whole city moving, but it has also inspired many people to push themselves to their fitness limits.

So far during the third year of the annual fitness challenge, we’ve already had The Body Coach Joe Wicks attempt to break the world record for the largest HIIT class at Skydive Dubai, and this weekend, another two world record attempts will be made in the emirate.

This time, it will be father-son duo Nick and Rio Watson, otherwise known as #TeamAngelWolf. Rio, 16, has a very rare chromosome disorder, which affects his speech and motor skills, making even simple movements like walking a challenge. His father, Nick, is a fitness expert and former Royal Marine, and together, the pair are regular participants in triathlons around the Emirates.

However, this weekend, they will attempt one of their toughest challenges yet, hoping to break two world records in the process. Nick will be swimming 10 kilometres in open water while towing Rio in a kayak. Nick will have three-metre cords attaching the kayak to his ankles throughout the challenge, which will see him set off from the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club on Saturday, November 2 at 6am. Spectators are encouraged to come down to cheer the pair on.

If they succeed, they will break the world records for: fastest time to swim 5 km, in open water, pulling a 16-year-old person with disabilities sat in a canoe/kayak; and fastest time to swim 10 km, in open water, pulling a 16-year-old person with disabilities sat in a canoe/kayak.

#TeamAngelWolf is a non-profit foundation that works to promote the value of togetherness, encourage the inclusion of people with disabilities and for society to embrace their own health. The team have participated in over 190 races since 2014.

The Dubai Fitness Challenge encourages people to do 30 minutes of exercise every day for 30 days. It will run until Saturday, November 16, with a number of free and special events taking place across the city.
