Watch: Moment Priyanka Chopra first saw herself in Ralph Lauren wedding gown
The actress wore a bespoke, hand-embroidered Ralph Lauren gown to wed Nick Jonas back in December
Ralph Lauren has shared the moment Priyanka Chopra first saw herself in the wedding dress he designed for her.
The actress married singer Nick Jonas in a lavish four-day celebration in Jodhpur, India in December in which two ceremonies were held – one traditional Christian service and later a Hindu blessing.
Chopra chose Ralph Lauren to design her bespoke wedding gown, which featured a lace high collar and 11,000 Swarovski crystals. The American designer also dressed the groom and the entire bridal party.
Ralph Lauren has now shared a video showing the intricate process of designing the dress, as well as the first moment Chopra saw herself wearing it during a fitting in Paris. He said the design was reflective of Chopra’s love story, culture and personality.
"This isn’t about a dress," he said. "It’s about a woman and a moment. @PriyankaChopra knows exactly who she is, and so I wanted the dress to reflect, not only her love story and the romance of India, but also her unique sensibility: strong, smart, and beautiful."
In total, the dress took more 1,826 hours to embroider, a task that was completed by 15 skilled artisans in Mumbai. The video also revealed that the date of the couple’s wedding was hand-stitched into the gown, alongside the word ‘love’.
Chopra topped off her custom-made gown with a 75-foot veil, which needed the help of six people to carry.
For her Hindu ceremony, Chopra wore a traditional red lehenga designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Following the couple’s nuptials at Umaid Bhawan Palace, two wedding receptions were held – the first in Delhi before a second in Mumbai.
