The ultimate throwback fashion collection: Moschino X My Little Pony
Kaia Gerber, Bella Hadid and Gigi Hadid were the first three models to walk the runway at Moschino’s spring/summer 2018 show during Milan Fashion Week. But, these American It-girls were not the highlight of the hour – rather, it was the nostalgic motifs on some of the candy-coloured garments that stole the show.
Love it or hate it, there’s no denying the cult-like effect that the My Little Pony television series from the 1980s has had on children, naturally, and also on adults, who were once enamored with the upbeat cartoon characters and still consider themselves fans. Notorious for turning emblems of pop culture into wearable garments (past collections have featured McDonalds, Barbie and Nintendo), Moschino’s creative director Jeremy Scott used these cheery, pastel ponies with rainbow-coloured manes as muses for spring/summer 2018.
The pieces splattered with My Little Pony motifs and rainbows are part of the brand’s see-now, buy-now capsule collection. In the logo for the collaboration, the "My Little Pony" text that's usually written in white bubble-letters across a rainbow, is replaced with "Moschino."
The T-shirts, sweatshirts, trackpants, bikinis and phone cases are all available online from Net-a-Porter. The full capsule collection, featuring metallic and sorbet-shaded bags, backpacks and clutches, including one lunchbox-inspired design, is available at Moschino.com.
The collection was produced in collaboration with Hasbro, which own the rights and trademark of My Little Pony, and was likely keen to partner with the luxury label in this timely fashion. After all, My Little Pony: The Movie, which stars the voices of Emily Blunt, Zoë Saldana and singer Sia, is set to release in October.
