Tuesday evening was particularly star-studded in Britain's capital, with two royally gilded occasions taking place across the city.

Last night saw Prince Charles host an intimate dinner at Buckingham Palace, while Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge attended the Portrait Gala in her second engagement of the day.

The mother-of-three stepped out in a recycled Alexander McQueen gown, which she first wore at the 2017 Baftas, at the National Portrait Gallery, of which she's been a patron for several years.

Funds raised at the black-tie benefit go towards a project that's working to help refurbish the gallery's building.

Also in attendance was British model Kate Moss, who wore a floor-sweeping burnt orange gown, as well as fellow catwalker Jourdan Dunn, former footballer David Beckham and his fashion designer wife Victoria and writer and style star Alexa Chung.

The duchess's cousin-in-law, Princess Beatrice, also made an appearance, as did singer Liam Payne.

A royal dinner

Just minutes away from the artistic gala in Trafalgar Square, Catherine's father-in-law, Prince Charles, was hosting several stars of the silver screen in Buckingham Palace.

The Prince of Wales threw an intimate soiree at the regal residence to celebrate his Prince's Trust, inviting donors, supporters and ambassadors of the charitable organisation, such as Amal and George Clooney.

The Beirut-born human rights lawyer and Hollywood actor were pictured chatting with Prince Charles during the event, with Amal donning an elegant, vintage Jean-Louis Scherrer gown for the night.

The A-list couple have close ties with the royal family, with the Clooneys attending Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding last May. Amal also co-hosted the Duchess of Sussex's baby shower, held in New York last month.

Also in attendance at last night's dinner was actor Josh Hartnett and his partner Tamsin Egerton, Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, Welsh actor Luke Evans and 12 Years a Slave's Chiwetel Ejiofor.
