Louis Vuitton salutes Michael Jackson with its menswear show invitation
The invite to Virgil Abloh’s show is a single, white jewelled glove
It seems everything that designer Virgil Abloh touches turns to gold.
His debut spring-summer 2019 collection for Louis Vuitton menswear is flying off the shelves, with pieces in the Tokyo pop-up going so fast it has already outsold the record-breaking collaboration with Supreme.
So, just hours before Abloh's second-ever menswear collection for the French house hits the runway in Paris (it takes place today at 5.50pm UAE time on January 17), it has been revealed the invitation to the show is a Michael Jackson-era white glove.
Last December, Abloh announced that the show would be a tribute to the King of Pop, and the dazzling white glove is proof that Abloh is a man of his word. With “there is only one” written on it, the glove is also signed by the designer, and has the address of the show carefully written on it (it will be at the Jardin des Tuileries in Paris, France). The single white glove is also covered in crystals, in vintage Jackson style.
How literal the runway homage is remains to be seen (moonwalking models, anyone?), but in the seemingly golden hands of Abloh, Jackson-esque diamanté jackets may soon be the new must-have.
