Grammys 2019: Ariana Grande poses in custom-made dress despite skipping awards

She might have avoided the ceremony after a disagreement with the show's boss, but she didn't let her fairytale gown go to waste

She might not have been at the ceremony, but that didn’t stop Ariana Grande from dressing up for the Grammys.

The singer was originally supposed to perform at the 61st annual Grammy Awards, but pulled out last week saying her "creativity and self-expression were being stifled" by show boss Ken Ehrlich.

But it seems the 25-year-old had already planned her show-stopping outfit for the night – a custom-made, silver-blue Zac Posen gown – and she made sure to still show it off.

"When Zac Posen makes you a custom gown, it doesn't matter if you're singing or not," said 7 Rings singer Grande, as she posed in the outfit in a series of pictures on Instagram. "Thank you."

Fans praised the star's “fairytale” look, which she topped off with her signature high ponytail and a custom Butani diamond necklace.

Despite her absence from the ceremony, Grande took to Twitter to celebrate her first-ever Grammy win, taking the gong for Best Pop Vocal on Sweetener.

“I know I’m not there tonight (trust, I tried and still truly wished it had worked out to be honest) and I know I said I try not to put too much weight into these things… but this is wild and beautiful. Thank you so much,” she wrote.

However, Grande later tweeted – and deleted – her anger at the Grammys for not honouring her late ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, who lost his posthumous nomination for best rap album to Cardi B.

The star made it clear that her anger was not directed at Cardi B, but said she was frustrated that Miller’s family had not been invited to the ceremony on his behalf.
