In a major coup for the UAE, Dior has announced that it will be presenting its spring/summer 2019 haute couture collection in Dubai.
The landmark event is scheduled to take place at 8pm on March 18, at an as-yet-undisclosed location. It has been confirmed that Dior’s formidable creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, will be present for the show, in her first trip to the region since joiningthe storied French maison.
In addition to looks from the existing collection, which was first unveiled in Paris last month, Chiuri is creating an exclusive capsule collection for the Dubai event.
Dior’s circus-themed Paris show unfolded in a big top in the Musee Rodin on January 21, amid strings of lights, a rainbow-tiled runway and performers from London’s all-female troupe of acrobats, Mimbre.
The clothes were equally spectacular, with semi-transparent crinoline gowns, perfectly tailored satin three-piece suits, tightrope-walker slippers, ringmaster dress pants and tiny playsuits all vying for space on Chiuri’s fantastical catwalk.
The announcement of Dior's show further cements Dubai's position as one of the world's emerging fashion capitals, following Dolce & Gabbana's show held at The Dubai Mall last October. The "Day and Night" catwalk extravaganza, held to celebrate the Italian label's new boutique in the mall's Fashion Avenue, offered exclusive looks for the region. Chanel has also staged a show in Dubai, with creative director Karl Lagerfeld unveiling the maison's cruise 2015 collection on The Island.
