Her film may have missed out on a trophy on the night, but Nadine Labaki gets our nod for one of the best dressed at the 2019 Bafta Awards.

The Lebanese director, whose film Capernaum was nominated for Best Film Not in the English Language at the London ceremony on Sunday, sported a design from her home country for the occasion.

With its one-shoulder silhouette and slices of lace, the Elie Saab creation imbued Labaki with a timeless, yet contemporary elegance on the red carpet.

The sweeping creation is not the first the director has worn by the Damour-born couturier, with Labaki also sporting Saab to the 2019 Golden Globes and 2018 Cannes Film Festival, among other occasions.

The Caramel star lost out to Alfonso Cuaron's Roma at the Baftas, though she has already made history as the first Lebanese female filmmaker to ever be nominated for an Oscar.

This year's Academy Awards will take place on February 24, with Capernaum up for Best Foreign Language Film.

The moving refugee drama, which claimed the prestigious Jury Prize at last year's Cannes festival, can also claim Glenn Close among its fans, after the Oscar-nominated actress praised Labaki's work on the Bafta red carpet.

"It moved me to my absolute core," said Close of Capernaum, citing it as the best film she had seen this year. Actor Jonathan Pryce agreed, calling the drama "extraordinary".

"Well we didn’t win but we won this!" said Labaki as she posted a clip of the red-carpet interview on her Instagram page. "And it makes it all worthwhile! Thank you @glennclose, thank you Jonathan Pryce! You make my heart sing!"

The Lebanese director wasn't the only star representing the Levant nation on the night, with Crazy Rich Asians actress Michelle Yeoh also donning Elie Saab at the Baftas.

The Malaysian star plucked an off-shoulder design from the couturier's haute couture collection, finished with metallic embroidery and a dramatic caped train.
