Dubai-based personal shopper, stylist and Instagram influencer, Nicole Majdalany, had her account unexpectedly shut down this week, and she says she had no warning from the social media platform.

This is the video that Nicole — who goes by @nicole_ontrend — thinks got her blocked:

In the video, taken at Dubai's Mall of the Emirates, Majdalany can be seen walking with her phone and handbag in hand, carrying two small shopping bags, while she is followed by what looks like an assistant, who cannot be seen under a pile of designer shopping bags.

The video was posted on December 28, 2018, and captioned, "hurry up then #stopcomplaining".

Majdalany admitted to The National that the post in question had attracted criticism, or online "trolls", saying that her content is "tongue-in-cheek" but "aspirational". And although "90 per cent" of her audience get the joke, there is "10 per cent" that doesn't.

She also acknowledged that having a following of 204k meant she was "going to get haters".

Majdalany's account was disabled by Instagram without warning at midday on Saturday January 5, and after appealing to Instagram it was back online by 9am on Tuesday, January 8, and so was down for less than three days in total.

Although it is unclear whether or not the designer shopping bags are full or empty, similar posts have appeared on Majdalany's Instagram in the past.

The stylist can often be seen surrounded by designer goods:

There has been backlash to the post in the comments, with one Instagram user writing, "Now imagine spending that money on charity.. wow". And another adding, "If it seems to you that by diminishing human dignity of others, you will step up your personal status and look royal, cool let alone respectful, you so so so failed. You don't look cool. You don't look r'n'b. You look like they should banned you from the society."

Although some followers defended Majdalany, writing, with some saying that she is "goals", and a second follower writing, "She’s a personal shopper, this is her job. Don’t take it so seriously it’s just a joke".
