Wear lighter fabrics Materials such as chiffon, cottons and silks are perfect for the hot weather because they are breathable and lightweight. Just be sure to check out the care label or else you may have a rather large dry-cleaning bill at the end of the month. Zara stock a great collection of chic 'machine-washable' blouses.

Choose pale fabrics Such shades reflect light, keeping you cooler. It's a bonus that wearing white on white is a key trend for this season.

Layer your clothes You can peel off when you're in the heat, but keep your style when inside the mall with its brisk air conditioning. A scarf is a must-have for me. Check out 'Wendy's Look Book' on YouTube for 25 ways to wear a scarf this summer.

Accessories are key Broad-brimmed hats are all the rage this summer, as well as decorated sunglasses. If you can't find a pair you love, check out the cupcakesandcashmere blog for tips on how to style your own (cupcakesandcashmere.com/diy-embellished-sunglasses).

Don't sacrifice style As the temperatures soar, stay sleek and slim in your summer outfits with a range of lighter shapewear options from the lingerie experts K-Lynn, such as spanx Skinny Britches, spanx Trust your Thinstincts and Wacoal Beauty SecretSummer, foundation shapewear crafted from thinner material, which still provide smoothing and sculpting support in all the right places.
