The Hatta mountains provide some of the country’s most picturesque views. The jagged rock and fiercely pointed tips cut into a backdrop of the bright blue sky.

At the foothills of the mountains sit clusters of white homes which in turn hug a park which opened in 2009 to serve the surrounding residents.

The park is built atop a hill - as the name suggests - with children's swings and slides at the base and a running track circling the hill.

The natural green areas of the park provide a space for picnics and family gatherings with designated areas for barbecuing.

Basketball games and football matches can be organised on two courts on the northern side of the hill.

Reviews on TripAdvisor rate the park as the third best thing to do in Hatta with many recommending a trip with the family during the cooler months.

"It is the perfect place for BBQ, jogging as it has a special track. There is big playground for kids too. The park equipped with two mini football areas and a swimming pool. Best place for families and friends," a review said.

In 2016, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, announced a Dh1.3 billion plan to turn the mountain city into a world-class tourist destination.

The plan includes hundreds of homes for Emiratis, green areas for winter sports and a mountain track circuit. It also includes a cultural festival and scholarships for young people.
