Head to the Festival Bay arena at Dubai Festival City on Thursday, January 17, to catch the launch of Imagine.

The laser and fountain display, which has acquired breaking-attraction status twice in the Guinness World Records, has reinvented itself with a pirates theme.

Imagine — A Pirates Tale follows the adventures of Ameer, a pearl diver who must rescue both his beloved and the King of the Sea emerald ring, which are being held hostage by pirates. Along the way he comes across enormous ships, friendly mermaids, a life-size octopus, fiery cannons and menacing marauders.

The venue boasts the largest-ever water projection screen synched to 30 fountains. Aqua tech aside, the show combines state-of-the-art lasers, holograms and pyrotechnics, and promises a multisensory experience that harnesses the power of light, fire and water. Festival Bay also has largest permanent projection mapping in the world, using as its screen the InterContinental hotel that has a surface area that's five times larger than the biggest Imax screen.

The first display is January 17 at 7pm, after which shows will be held every day after sunset at 30-minute intervals, until April 30. They are free to attend.

The launch event also has props such as a custom-built ship, a sand zone, a splash play area and the perfunctory bouncy castle for children, plus food trucks and characters dressed up as pirates.
