Mohamed Hadid has shared a touching handwritten letter to his grandchild as his daughter Gigi Hadid prepares to give birth.
The Palestinian-Jordanian real estate developer sparked speculation that the supermodel had given birth on Wednesday evening, sharing the poem alongside the comment: “I want to say I love you and I am so proud of you @GigiHadid.”
However, after fans began to conclude that Gigi had welcomed her first child alongside her pop star boyfriend Zayn Malik, Hadid removed the post from his Instagram page, but not before replying to one comment to say Gigi had “not yet” given birth.
While her exact due date has not been revealed, she confirmed when the news of her pregnancy was announced earlier this year that the baby would be born in September.
And it seems Hadid is thrilled about the prospect of becoming a grandfather again, saying he is “as happy as can be” in the touching poem.
The note begins with a customary line in Arabic, "In the name of God, the most gracious, the most merciful".
“Hello little grandchild, it is me, my heart as happy as can be. I wish for you the sun and moon, I wish for you a happy time,” the poem reads, in English.
“Know that grandpa’s always here, I’ll do anything, anything for you, my dear.
“When I heard you were on the way, I smiled and wiped a tear away. I cried the tear because I knew my heart would always belong to you.”
Gigi has kept much of her pregnancy private, spending lockdown alongside Malik, her mother Yolanda, and her supermodel sister Bella at the family’s sprawling farm in Pennsylvania.
However, she has given fans a few insights into her pregnancy, including sharing striking images from a pregnancy shoot on July 26, when she revealed she was 33 weeks along. That would put her at 40 weeks pregnant currently, at her due date, so the baby could be arriving very soon.
Bella Hadid also sparked speculation that she is set to become an aunt imminently, earlier this week sharing a throwback of her own stomach alongside her sister's. "Two buns in the oven except mine is from my burger and Gigi's is from Zayn. I love you both so freaking much ... can't stop crying."
