If you’re looking for new places to visit now that the weather’s getting cooler, Al Khawaneej Walk should probably be on your radar.
A new community mall in the Al Khawaneej neighbourhood, Al Khawaneej Walk opened this week with a number of home-grown and international offerings.
With both indoor and outdoor space, the mall is landscaped around a picturesque lake, complete with artificial bird and animal figurines in the vicinity, as well as an 18-metre-tall rustic windmill.
The architecture is inspired by an agricultural greenhouse, and houses a new branch of Roxy Cinemas, the cinema chain's fifth venue in the city.
Roxy Cinemas Al Khawaneej comprises six screens and also features the brand’s largest screen in the UAE. Moviegoers can expect 4K Laser Projection, Dolby Atmos Immersive Sound and its Diamond Class Experience, featuring reclining heated seats, wireless charging, and food and beverages brought directly to seats.
The mall is also home to a 40,000-square-foot Geant Hypermarket. This is its 11th branch in Dubai overall, and the company's first new location since the pandemic started. According to Mark Anthony Lack, chief executive of Urban Foods (which operates the brand), the branch has been designed with Covid-19 in mind, which is why it features wider aisles, a separate entrance and exit, and a larger checkout area.
For fitness enthusiasts, the new destination also houses a Warehouse Gym, with a ladies-only section and 25-metre swimming pool. Meanwhile, there are a number of local fashion brands, as well as spas and salons. For entertainment, there's a branch of Kidoos and The Arcade by Hub Zero, with PC games and virtual reality experiences.
The Walk is located a stone’s throw away from Last Exit Al Khawaneej, which comprises food trucks such Cupagahwa and Chicken Man.
And, of course, no visit to the area is complete without stopping for a photo (or 20) of the Promise Bridge, with views of the padlocks and the surrounding lake glittering away in the background.
Al Khawaneej Walk is open from 10am-10pm, Sunday to Wednesday, and from 10am-12am, Thursday to Saturday.
