As Dubai slowly comes back to life, amid the gradual easing of restrictions put in place to help prevent the spread of Covid-19, it's been announced that a series of festivals will take place in the city.

This includes the annual shopping campaign Dubai Summer Surprises, as well as another preparing children to go back to school come September.

Each year, Dubai Summer Surprises offers a programme of events, promotions, entertainment and other initiatives. This year, it will combine a series of in-person activations, including citywide bargains and promotions, as well as virtual elements.

It will take place for seven weeks, from Thursday, July 9, to Saturday, August 29. This coincides with the ease on travel restrictions, as the emirate gears up to reopen to international tourists on Tuesday, July 7.

More than 700 retail brands have signed up to offer promotions across more than 3,000 outlets in Dubai. Discounts will range from 25 per cent to 75 per cent off, on all types of products.

“This year, more than ever, we look forward to welcoming back the city’s residents and visitors to summer in Dubai, while ensuring their health and safety remain our highest priority,” Ahmed Al Khaja, chief executive of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, said in a statement.

“Through additional safety measures put in place across malls and retail stores, Dubai will once again be the place to be this season.”

Malls and shopping centres in Dubai were allowed to reopen at 100 per cent capacity on Wednesday, June 2, with strict safety measures in place.

Staff and customers must wear face masks and practise social distancing, standing at least two metres apart from other shoppers at all times.

Temperature checks are being carried out, and everyone is encouraged to frequently sanitise their hands.

Isolation rooms have been set aside for those displaying symptoms of the virus.

The full calendar of events for Dubai Summer Surprises has yet to be announced.
