She might be famous for her 2014 hit Burn, but this weekend, it was the tyres that were burning on the tarmac as Ellie Goulding visited Morocco for Formula E.

The British singer jetted into Marrakech on Friday, February 28 to attend a series of events for the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, which took place on Saturday, February 29.

The Love Me Like You Do hitmaker rubbed shoulders with stars of the track ahead of the big day, attending a pre-race dinner in the Moroccan city.

Goulding, 33, wore a classic LDB for the occasion, where she chatted with British racing driver Sam Bird.

"Proud of Sam Bird representing the UK this weekend in Marrakech," the singer posted in an Instagram snap from the evening. "The ABB FIA Formula E Championship actively promotes electric mobility and alternative energy solutions to contribute to reducing air pollution and fighting against climate change around the world."

On race day, Goulding headed down to the track, where she donned a grey race suit and gave a BMW electric car a spin.

“I grew up watching motorsports every weekend,” Goulding said, according to Just Jared. “Getting behind the wheel of the BMW i8 safety car was so exhilarating, all the while being sustainable – it was so fantastic I asked to go around twice. Formula E is now, it is setting the bar high for all other sporting events to follow. This is my second time here and certainly won’t be my last.”

Formula E, which held its inaugural championship in 2014, uses only electric cars. The next event in the sixth annual race calendar is due to be held in Rome, Italy on Saturday, April 4. Saturday's race title was claimed by Portugal's Antonio Felix Da Costa, who stole victory from Germany's Maximillian Guenther.

Following the race, Goulding attended a Mad Hatters tea party that took inspiration from Lewis Carroll's classic children's book, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

For the bash, held at the city's five-star Amanjena hotel, Goulding wore a brightly coloured patterned midi dress in keeping with the whimsical theme.

The star was last known to have visited the North African country in 2017, when she performed at Mawazine festival.
