The event

Bride Dubai 2013 hits the Dubai International Exhibition Centre on Thursday with 300 regional and international exhibitors.

The concept – first launched 15 years ago and organised by Informa Exhibitions, the people behind Bride Abu Dhabi – has since welcomed more than 150,000 attendees. Exhibitors to look out for include Mauzan, the haute couture Abaya, Dnata, LG and the photography and film specialists Digitally. The event will feature catwalk shows by designers such as Qassem Al Qassem and Lamia Abinader, an exclusive Fashion Avenue, VIP Lounge and a new Jewellery Pavilion.

The market

One third of brides-to-be in the UAE would pay up to Dh100,000 for their wedding and almost half of them would pay Dh10,000 alone for their gown, according to a new survey commissioned ahead of this weekend’s event. The findings came from a survey of 900 women, 27 per cent who leaned toward the classic style of Kate Middleton’s wedding dress over the latest celebrity gown.

The highlights

Daphne Cota, the show’s director, advises brides-to-be to watch out for “stunning mother-of-pearl clutches” from Quirky; Czech crystal studded platform shoes at Shoe Palace; the exhibitor Studio 90, which will be showcasing 17th-century French perfume in the Turkish Pavilion; and Istanbul Old Bazaar offering Turkish accessories.
