The Arab Fashion Council has added another feather to its cap. Not content with staging the first ever Arab Fashion Week in Riyadh a few weeks ago, on Monday it announced that it will be hosting the world’s first floating fashion show.

This month will see the sixth edition of its Dubai fashion week take place aboard the newly opened Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise liner.

The event aboard the restored QE 2 – now permanently moored in Port Rashid, Dubai – will be held in partnership with MBM Holding, an investment and development company in Dubai, from May 9 to 12.

Ready-to-wear and ready couture collections will be shown by designers from all around the world, including from the UAE, Lebanon, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Armenia, as well as Russia, Portugal, China, the US and Taiwan.

In addition to runway shows, Arab Fashion Week will also be launching its AFC Green Label, which is dedicated to showcasing environmentally aware collections, to support sustainability in the region.

Speaking of the announced partnership, Jacob Abrian, chief executive of the Arab Fashion Council, said: “We are proud and honoured by this strategic partnership with MBM Holding, which aims to implement the vision of the Arab Fashion Council in positioning the UAE on the international map of fashion and design economy."  Together, they would unveil a “strategic plan and a new initiative to implement this vision”, he said.

Saeed Al Mutawa, chief executive of MBM Holding, said the company was looking forward to helping support a “global sustainable nation in arts and creativity” and “exporting ‘Made in UAE’ to the world”.
