That was the challenge from Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, to new graduates of UAE University yesterday.

Sheikh Mohammed paid tribute to 434 students from the class of 2014 who were awarded their degrees at a ceremony in Al Ain.

“I would like to advise you that your time starts now and you enter into a new life where you have to innovate and create the better future of this country.

“Education is an ongoing process. We never stop learning and we learn every day,” said Sheikh Mohammed.

“I hope you are going to continue and contribute to the betterment of this country.”

The graduates, meanwhile, were looking forward to starting their careers.

“We will continue to contribute to the development of our country and always strive to deliver our best for the country which spent on us its noble attention for our bright future,” said Mohammed Ateej, who graduated with a degree in medicine.

Hamad Owaitha Al Khaili, 24, from Al Ain, received a bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship. “I plan to work in the automobile business and start it from a small scale of buying and selling used cars. Then I plan to open a showroom,” he said.

Adil Obaid Al Abdooli, 25, from Fujairah, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. “This is happiest moment – to get the degree from Sheikh Mohammed. It feels like an Eid to me.”

The students who graduated yesterday came from all disciplines, including 107 in engineering, 23 in IT and three who received doctorates in pharmacy.

Founded in 1976 by the founding President, Sheikh Zayed, UAE University has about 14,000 Emirati and international students.

The event was held under the auspices of the President, Sheikh Khalifa.
