Eid mubarak to all

Don't lose sight of the true meaning of this special time of year and the spirit of sacrifice it represents

One of the most important dates on the calendar has arrived, when millions of people celebrate Eid Al Adha across the UAE and throughout the Muslim world. Eid offers the perfect occasion for friends and families to join together with open hearts and spend some quality time with each other.

Keeping that spirit in mind, a wide range of family entertainment at malls, public parks and elsewhere has been scheduled during the holiday period, as The National has reported.

For many in this country, this year Eid will bring an additional reason to be cheerful: a nine-day holiday.

Small wonder that some of Dubai’s most enterprising shopping malls plan to remain open for 48 hours over the first weekend of the holiday to pander to the retail impulses of the emirate’s more shopping-obsessed residents.

Amid all of that conspicuous consumption, however, it is important not to lose sight of the true meaning of this special time of year and the spirit of sacrifice it represents.

We wish you all a very relaxing and enjoyable Eid.
