Clapton's capital call

Local fans have been spoiled recently with a series of big name concerts, but even by those standards the news that Slowhand himself, Eric Clapton, will be performing on February 11 should ensure another full house at Yas Arena.

'I have to tell you, man, that I'm in love with your wife." With these words, Eric Clapton revealed to his best friend George Harrison the depth of his feelings towards Patti Boyd, then the Beatle's wife.

UAE music fans hoping to catch Clapton's concert in Abu Dhabi perhaps owe Boyd a debt of gratitude for her influence on one of rock's greatest guitarists. A muse, and eventually wife, to both Harrison and Clapton, she is the inspiration behind two enduring classics, The Beatles' Something and Derek and The Dominos' Layla. And if that wasn't enough, Clapton also penned Wonderful Tonight while watching her take an eternity to get ready for a night out.

And if waving your iPhones to Wonderful Tonight whets your appetite for more, DJ Tiesto (February 17) and Jared Leto's 30 Seconds To Mars (March 11) will also be rocking the capital at nearby Flash Forum.

Finally, Motown legend and Grammy award collector Stevie Wonder will call in at Yas Arena on March 18. With more than 30 Billboard Top 10 hits, it's a chance for some of the younger fans to discover that not all his songs were written with voice mail messages in mind.
