DUBAI // Visitors can watch King Croc, the newest arrival at Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo in Dubai Mall, open his powerful jaws to chomp on his meal during daily feeding sessions.

Each day at 4pm visitors can see King Croc, one of the world’s largest reptiles, along with Queen Croc, his female companion, devour either the chicken, beef or fish on the day’s menu.

King Croc’s diet is about 12 pounds per day of either meat and his meals are closely monitored, said the aquarium.

His 60 razor-sharp teeth are the size of an average index finger and his head weighs more than 150kg.

Visitors can watch King and Queen Croc “take the fiercest bite by any animal, at an estimated 3,700 pounds per square inch,” an aquarium statement said.

The two giant Australian crocodiles arrived in June after they were flown to Dubai from their home at a botanical garden in Queensland.

The enclosure in the aquarium has been designed to ensure they have sufficient room to grow and move.

At more than five metres long and weighing a substantial 750kg, King Croc is equivalent to the weight of 15 men.

At 40 years old, he is one of the biggest of his species and aquarium authorities believe he has the potential to grow much bigger over the next 50 years of his expected lifespan.
