SRK’s Happy New Year to premiere at Dubai’s Atlantis, The Palm
DUBAI // A star-packed Bollywood movie that was shot in the city will receive its international premiere at Atlantis, The Palm on October 22.
The cast of the comedy Happy New Year, who include Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and Abhishek Bachchan, are due attend the event.
Shooting for the film took place at the hotel, in conjunction with the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commence Marketing (DTCM) and Dubai Film and Television Commission, in September 2013.
“I wrote the script of Happy New Year with Dubai in mind and the entire climax is shot around New Year’s Eve at Atlantis, The Palm. I will always cherish shooting Happy New Year in Dubai,” the director Farah Khan said.
Shah Rukh Khan said: “I would like to thank Atlantis, The Palm and DTCM for being such gracious hosts to us. Dubai is like home for me and I have loved every bit of my experience of shooting for Happy New Year here.
Jamal Al Sharif, chairman of Dubai Film and TV Commission and managing director of Dubai Studio City, said the producers’ decision to shoot the film in Dubai emphasised the growth of the movie industry in the region.
“These huge budget films benefit from the diversity in shooting locations, strong and advanced infrastructure and the ease of issuing permits and facilities, which they can’t find elsewhere in the region,” he said.
