ABU DHABI // The luxury cruise liner Queen Elizabeth arrived at Zayed Port on Wednesday – the second ship belonging to the Cunard fleet to stop off in the capital this year.
The passengers were given a traditional Emirati welcome by Abu Dhabi Ports Company with Al Ayala dancers, Emirati foods, a henna artist and a falconer and his falcon.
Queen Mary 2, Cunard's flagship luxury cruise liner, visited Zayed Port in January.
Abdulkareem Al Masabi, vice president of operations, and Noura Al Dhaheri, Abu Dhabi cruise terminal manager, Abu Dhabi Ports, presented Queen Elizabeth's captain Inger Klein Thorhauge with a cake and congratulated Cunard on its 175th anniversary of the shipping line's first ocean crossing.
Ms Al Dhaheri said: “This is the first year that two Cunard cruise liners have called at Zayed Port in one season. Abu Dhabi is an exciting city with so much to see and do. This season more than 4,700 Cunard cruise passengers have explored the emirate.
“ Abu Dhabi Ports is delighted to be able to congratulate its customer Cunard on reaching this wonderful historic anniversary and wishes the company well for its continued celebrations later this year.”
