ABU DHABI // The Royal Moscow Orchestra will be performing for the first time in the capital next month.

Led by the famed Russian principal conductor Alexej Ostetrov, the orchestra will be in Abu Dhabi city to perform the musical score by Sergei Prokofiev for the Royal Moscow Ballet’s Cinderella shows at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec).

The orchestra will perform 14 shows starting on June 6. The 90-minute performances will be part of the summer entertainment programme offered by Abu Dhabi’s tourism and culture authority.

“This is a rare opportunity for classical music lovers to hear one of the world’s most accomplished orchestras,” said Sultan Al Dhaheri, acting executive director tourism, TCA Abu Dhabi.

“Cinderella is one of the biggest shows ever to come to town with a combined cast of 70, including 33 dancers and artistic and technical support. It is one of the world’s best-known fairy tales performed by some of its best artistes and will have appeal across all nationalities and age groups.”

The 30-strong Royal Moscow Orchestra, which has performed to audiences across the US, China and Europe, was formed eight years ago to specialise in ballet music. Its members have been recruited from the leading music schools in the Russian capital and include promising young graduate prodigies from Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Conservatory and Gnesin Russian Academy of Music.
