ABU DHABI // The Louvre Abu Dhabi has won an environmental accolade for its sustainable design structure.
The museum, located at the heart of the Saadiyat Cultural District, received the Green Building Award at The Green Middle East Awards for Environmental Excellence at the Expo Centre Sharjah.
"We are delighted to receive this award for Louvre Abu Dhabi, which goes on to show that TDIC ensures that environmental sustainability is integrated into its developments including large-scale projects, such as Louvre Abu Dhabi," said Dr Nathalie Staelens, head of environmental services at the Tourism Development and Investment Company, which is developing the leading cultural institution.
Earlier this year, the Louvre Abu Dhabi was also awarded a three pearl rating under Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council's Estidama scheme.
Louvre Abu Dhabi, a six-year project, is set to open on December 2, 2015, the UAE's 44th National Day.
