What is Apple Music?
Apple Music is a new music streaming service akin to the hugely popular Spotify. It went live on Tuesday and enables users to stream or download music from Apple’s library, for a monthly fee. It also features a range of digital radio stations.
How do I get it?
Apple Music is downloaded as part of the iOS 8.4 update. It updates the old Music app on your device.
What is Beats 1?
Beats 1 is Apple Music’s flagship online radio station, with bases in London, New York and Los Angeles. It is hosted by Zane Lowe and other radio personalities.
Why can’t I get Beats 1 in the UAE?
The station is unavailable for UAE iTunes account holders. If you have a UAE iTunes account Beats 1 will not appear in your Music app. iTunes accounts from countries with Beats 1 availability can access the station by using a virtual private network (VPN).
How much is it?
The service is free for the first three months, after which users will be charged Dh19.99 per month for an individual membership, or Dh29.99 for a family membership of up to six people.
Why is Apple Music cheaper in the UAE than in the US, UK or elsewhere?
This is likely due to a reduced catalogue of services and music options available for UAE users. Local licensing issues may be the cause of this. A list of the features available per country can be found here:
