DUBAI // More than a thousand entries from 165 countries have been submitted for the UAE Drones for Good Award.

A total of 1,017 entries were received for the award, which is in its second edition. Most were submitted in the humanitarian aid category, which covered 17.2 per cent of entries, followed by environment, with 13.2 per cent of submissions.

The leading countries where entries came from were the US, UAE, UK, Saudi Arabia, Spain, India, Australia, Canada and South Korea, organisers said.

“The UAE Drones for Good Award and other innovative initiatives have reinforced the UAE’s position as an international destination for advanced technological innovations,” said Mohammed Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and chairman of the award organising committee.

Saif Al-Aleeli, chief executive of the Dubai Museum of the Future Foundation and coordinator general for the award, said the number of submissions increased by 27 per cent compared with the previous edition, and that the number of patricipating countries grew by 189 per cent.

UAE citizens and residents can participate in the national competition, for which the prize is Dh1 million, or the international competition, with a prize of US$1 million.
