DUBAI // The emirate’s municipality has set up a high-ranking team on information security, to reassure residents that their data is secure.

The team will be headed by Dubai Municipality’s assistant director general, Obaid Salim Al Shamsi, and it aims to protect collected information from any threat such as loss, theft or hacking.

“The municipality is determined to take every action required to provide the public, whether they are individuals or partners, with a safe and trustable information management,” said the organisation’s director general, Hussain Nassir Lootah.

He added that it is also aimed at preventing the manipulation or unauthorised disclosure of information while ensuring its availability to authorised parties at any time.

“Dubai Municipality is one of the largest organisations in terms of handling important data and information related to the general public,” said Mr Lootah.

“We are consequently keen to protect it to ensure a stable environment to take the right decisions and provide the best services, which is key to the success of the civic body in all its ventures.

“The team will implement the most advanced information security system, applying its approved policy in all departments of Dubai Municipality.

“It is the team’s duty to monitor and follow up the compliance of each and every unit, section and department with the system and policy, as well as to take action in case of any violation.”

The municipality has already secured the international ISO27001 certificate in the area of information security for electronic services rendered to the public.
