More than 500 defence industry experts shared notes on the future of industrial cooperation at the two-day Abu Dhabi International Offset Conference that wrapped up yesterday.

Held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, the conference brought together global defence contractors, governments and industry experts to examine international offset policies, the state news agency Wam reported.

The conference is hosted every two years by the Tawazun Economic Council, an organisation set up in 1992 with a mandate to facilitate joint ventures between local and international firms. The Tawazun Economic Programme, which the council is tasked with overseeing, also invests in sustainable ventures in alignment with the country’s strategic economic master plan.

“The UAE is steadily establishing itself as a hub for world-class strategic manufacturing products and services,” said Matar Al Romaithi, the chief officer of the industrial development unit at the council.
