Take a bus and see the world

When you head off on your travels this summer, a good barometer of how much spending money you need could come from the cost of booking a city sightseeing tour bus.

A sight seeing bus travels through Times Square in New York, U.S., on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009. Historically low crime, a 26 percent decline in hotel-room charges and the dollar's 13 percent drop in value against the euro since March will attract 44.7 million visitors in 2009, according to NYC & Co., the city's marketing office. That represents a 5 percent drop from last year's record, half the fall-off tourism officials feared in January. Photographer: Daniel Acker/Bloomberg

When you head off on your travels this summer, a good barometer of how much spending money you need could come from the cost of booking a city sightseeing tour bus.

According to research from travel money specialist, Moneycorp, the cost for a day pass for a single adult or a family of four can vary widely depending on where you are in the world.

For this reason, the Moneycorp team found out the cost and the number of attractions on each tour and then worked out the cost per attraction.

The most expensive sightseeing tour, by price alone, of the top 20 destinations was New York, where a day pass for a family of four, costs an average of £142 (Dh817) - however, that doesn't include entry into any attractions.

The cheapest destination, Delhi, a sightseeing bus tour costs just £13 - a difference of almost £130.

For those curious to know how this research compares with the UAE, a 24-hour pass for an adult on Dubai's Big Bus Tours costs Dh220 for an adult and Dh539 for a family.

In Abu Dhabi, it costs Dh201 for an adult and Dh503 for a family with the same company.
