Qatar Airways will merge its frequent flyer programme with both American Airlines and British Airways ahead of the Arabian Gulf carrier’s formal admission into the Oneworld alliance next month.

Passengers on Qatar Airways can now start redeeming air miles on the American Airlines frequent flyer programme, and can begin doing so with British Airways from October 1, according to statements made by the Gulf carrier.

The agreement between Qatar Airways and American Airlines is in addition to the codeshare relationship the two carriers have in place, which includes joint marketing on 170 routes in the United States, Europe and the Middle East, one of the statements added.

Qatar Airways will join the Oneworld Alliance of carriers, which includes American Airlines, British Airways and Qantas, on October 30, having announced in October last year that its membership was being considered.
