It is said to have inspired the world's most famous fairytale castle.
Château d'Aubiry, a French château located on the mountain chain of Les Aspres near the town of Perpignan and the Spanish border, is believed to be one of several castles which provided a model for Walt Disney's Cinderella palace. And it could be yours for US$27.3 million.
The property owes its beginnings to a baker, according to the upmarket estate agent Sotheby's.
Jean Bardou later went on to design wrapping paper and in 1849 invented the Job cigarette paper brand. The château was among three properties built using the family fortune.
Work started in 1894 and took six years to complete. It was designed by Vigo Dorph Petersen, an architect who worked for the society of the Belle Époque.
The 26,910 square foot property was built on a layer of Pyrenean marble, a material which was also used for the entrance hall, stairway, balustrades, and columns, ceiling roses and banisters.
The property also features a chapel, cellar, billiard room, music room, vineyards and more than 12 acres of gardens.
There are 15 bedrooms in total located on the first and second floors, some of which are themed, including a Chinese room decorated in honour of Bao Dai, the last emperor of Indochina.
The bathrooms are "highly appointed" with original features.
Adorning the walls are frescoes by artists including Gervais and Henry Perrault dating from 1905 and there is a signed ceramic painting by Hubert Paris from 1900 in the conservatory.
