Shoppers have the chance to win up to Dh100 million in raffles and prizes in the month-long Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) that kicked off this week.

From cars, cash, gold, jewellery and more, there are a host of ways to win big in Dubai's citywide shopping extravaganza.

In the Gold Mega Raffle, shoppers spending a minimum of Dh1,000 on gold at retailers such as Damas can win up to 19kg of gold - half a kilo of gold everyday for 32 days plus an extra three kilograms on the final day. In addition, customers spending Dh1,000 on jewellery will receive a scratch-and-win card with the chance to win up to Dh2m in gold and diamonds.

For those wanting to drive away with a prize, they can choose from the Nissan Mega Raffle and the Infiniti Mega Raffle.

The Nissan Mega Raffle is giving away 32 cars this month. To buy a coupon, shoppers must spend a minimum of Dh20 at Enoc and Eppco on non-fuel purchases. The winner will then be invited to pick a ball from a bowl to win one of eight models including the Tiida, Xterra, Murano and Patrol. The selected ball will then determine the model they win.

In the daily draw for the Infiniti Mega Raffle, customers have a one in 5,000 chance of taking home a luxurious Infiniti QX56 model worth Dh350,000 plus Dh100,000 in cash. Each ticket costs Dh200.

Ibrahim Saleh, festivals coordinator general and deputy chief executive of the Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment, says: "On an average, the festival attracts 3.3 million visitors every year and our prizes are among the biggest of their kind. Since 1996, DSF has given away prizes worth Dh1.4 billion."

National Bonds has almost doubled the number of prizes for 2012 giving customers the opportunity to win 9,635 prizes every week.

The region's leading Sharia-compliant saving scheme announced the new prize structure this week to encourage more people to save regularly.

Previously bondholders could only win 5,135 prizes a week with 272,167 prizes given away in 2011.

Customers can now also boost their chances of winning by holding onto their bonds for longer. For instance, a newly issued bond will get one chance to win in the draw, while a bond held for six months will get two chances and so on.

The draws have also been moved to Sunday, instead of Saturday, to encourage customers to save over the weekend. All bondholders with holdings of 300 bonds or more now qualify for the weekly and monthly draws.

"National Bonds is more than a prize; it is a lifelong experience that we hope will be passed from one generation to another," says Mohammed Qasim Al Ali, chief executive, National Bonds.

The new prize structure includes Dh1 million on the first Sunday of every month and 9,635 other prizes - five prizes of Dh10,000, 10 of Dh5,000, 20 of Dh1,000, 100 of Dh500, 500 prizes of Dh100 and 9,000 prizes of Dh50.
