It's official - the iPAD 'launched' in UAE

The Midis Group, which delivers Apple products throughout the region through the iStyle retail chain, announced it has officially been granted distribution rights to the popular tablet device through its Twitter account.

Despite being available on the grey market for the past year, the iPad will officially be available in the UAE tomorrow.

The Midis Group, which delivers Apple products throughout the region through the iStyle retail chain, announced it has officially been granted distribution rights to the popular tablet device through its Twitter account.

"We are glad to announce the official launch of iPad in the UAE this coming Friday," the company said through its @iStyleME Twitter feed.

"We will only offer the units, [it is] up to customers to go with either [Etisalat or du] for data plans."

The iPad will be priced between Dh2,199 for a 16 gigabyte version with only Wifi connectivity to Dh3,699 for a 64 gigabyte model with the ability to connect to 3G networks.

However, it remains to be seen if there will be line-ups outside shopping malls with eager gadget fanatics wishing to buy the tablet device.

As soon as Apple announced the iPad would be available last April, the device started appearing in retailers through unofficial distributors.

One retailer in Dubai's Al Ain Centre, a mall that caters to electronic goods, sells the aforementioned 64 gigabyte iPad model for Dh3,199.

Although Apple does not have a direct retail presence in the Middle East, it has signed an exclusive distribution deal with Midis Group to sell its products in the region.

Executives from Apple, iStyle or the Midis Group could not be reached.

The retailer currently has 30 stores across the Middle East, and 21 in Europe. It is planning on expanding the iStyle chain throughout north Africa.
