Noisy environments such as big cities can make it difficult to listen to your favourite music, even on your headphones.
However, Sony's latest noise-cancelling headphones, the MDR-NC200D, which cost US$200 (Dh734), aim to help you block the outside noise to help you focus on what you are listening to while also causing less damage to your ears.
The headphones have a button to activate artificial noise cancellation, a function in which the headset gauges external noises and initiates one of three digital noise-cancelling modes: for aeroplanes, cars or indoor environments.
The result is that you can listen to your music at lower volumes, which leads to reduced ear fatigue.
The MDR-NC200D headphones also have a monitor button that allows you to let in some outside sounds so that you won't need to take them off if you need to be aware of what is happening around you.
Sony says these headphones will reduce 98.2 per cent of ambient noise for up to 22 hours on a single AAA battery.
The MDR-NC200D is compact too: the cups that go around your ears are 40mm, and the device can be folded away for easy packing if you are travelling.
Users can also enjoy the noise cancelling feature without music or movies if they just want peace and quiet. But those who would rather listen to their rock, pop or hip-hop sound tracks will be able to do so with a pair of headphones that have an equaliser with full digital amplification, which provides authentic sound reproduction for rich, natural audio.
Sony's MDR-NC200D is the company's latest pair of headphones, as it also recently unveiled its smaller noise-cancelling earphones, the MDR-NC100Ds, which costs US$150. Sony's latest headphones will be available next month.
