The Ministry of Labour says it is considering new methods for the filing of labour contracts.
“We are studying two new measures to ease the current registration process. One would be applying through eNetwasal services online on the Ministry of Labour [MoL] website, and the other through the MoL smartphone application,” said Aisha Belharfia, an acting assistant undersecretary for labour affairs.
The measures relate to the filing of labour contracts and applications made through Tasheel offices.
Last year, a new decree listed the rules for granting licences to operate Tasheel online service centres to help create jobs for Emiratis in the private sector.
These new initiatives are part of the UAE Government’s drive to provide online services to citizens and expatriates.
Several private-sector representatives recently held talks with ministry officials to discuss the labour registration process for Emiratis once they are employed by private firms.
The ministry oversees a market of more than 4 million workers and 300,000 registered businesses that have a staff of about 1,200 each.
The ministry had proposed amendments to the labour law that would promote Emiratis’ greater participation in the private sector by narrowing the gap in working conditions between the public and private sectors, Saqr Ghobash, the Minister of Labour, said in January.
Use of a new standard employment contract to ensure greater transparency would soon be mandated, he said.
