The Dubai-based provider of oil and gas, mining and retail services Ecolog has appointed Adil Toubia as its vice chairman and chief executive, replacing Paul Broekhuijsen as CEO, who is moving to the Netherlands.

Mr Toubia is the former worldwide president of the Wireline and Drilling divisions at Schlumberger, one of the world's leading oilfield services company, where he worked for more than two decades and held various executive roles.

“Ecolog is very pleased to have found the perfect individual to steer us into deeper specialization and optimization as we continue our global expansion,” said Nazif Destani, Ecolog's founder and chairman. “Adil’s vast knowledge and proven track record make him uniquely qualified to lead Ecolog during this exciting time of growth.”

From 2012 to 2014, Mr Toubia was the global chief executive of Siemens' oil and gas division, overseeing a un it with a turnover of €5 billion (Dh21.14bn) and a workforce of some 17,500 people. He last served as the group chief executive of Al-Ghurair Investment, and has previously held top executive positions with Energy Capital Group and GCC Energy Fund, private equity firms making investments in the energy and power sectors.

"I am delighted to join Ecolog and totally committed to our company reaching market leadership and becoming the most recognized name in our industry,” Mr Toubia said. “I’m very impressed with the company’s global expansion and its growing list of contracts, and I plan to build on the good initiatives already launched."
