Abu Dhabi's Department of Economic Development (DED) has modified the way billboard renewal fees are calculated, fixing it at Dh200 regardless of size of the advertisement.

Mohammed Munif Al Mansouri, chief executive of the Abu Dhabi Business Centre, said the change in billboard fees was brought in to reduce costs, especially for businesses that require the installation of large billboards, which previously cost up to Dh3,000.

The DED also exempted new licences, whether commercial, industrial, professional, craft, construction and others, from the fees charged by the Centre of Waste Management - Abu Dhabi and the need to obtain a No Objection Certificate for the first year.

The two decisions are aimed at boosting economic activity in the emirate and will help improve the Abu Dhabi’s ranking in the World Bank Doing Business and World Economic Forum Global Competitiveness Reports, the DED said.

Khalifa Bin Salem Al Mansouri, DED Undersecretary, said the moves are part of the DED’s aims, through its collaboration with its strategic partners in the government, to adopt best practices to reinforce the emirate’s status regionally and globally regarding business competitiveness.

The DED has implemented several initiatives to development of the business registration system in Abu Dhabi, cutting the time, costs and number of procedures needed to operate businesses in the emirate, in addition to attracting more investment.
