Dubai Duty Free is attempting to boost sales by offering a 20 per cent discount over the Eid holiday.

The discount which will be made available between 30th June to 3rd July on some products comes as nearly two million passengers are expected to travel through Dubai International Airport.

Dubai Duty Free currently operates some 34,000 square metres of retail space at Dubai International Airport, including 7,000 sq metres of the recently opened Concourse D. It also operates 2,500 sq metres at Al Maktoum International in Dubai South.

Last year annual sales at the duty free shop fell 1.5 per cent – a rare occurrence for what is one of the world’s most successful retail operations – on the back of the weak euro and fall in Russian spending hit.

For decades, the airport retailer has reported rises in year-on- year sales helped by the rapid growth of Dubai’s airports. But the strong dollar hit the country’s retail sector hard, while a decline in spending by Russian visitors has compounded the impact.
