Du has invested Dh400 million in its mobile network in a move it says will cut mobile battery consumption by up to half, as well as boost data speeds.
The UAE telcoms operator has struck a deal with Nokia Siemens Networks to provide hardware and software to upgrade its network.
The move will double the capacity of voice calls du can carry, as well as enabling the operator to offer data rates of "up to 42Mbps in selected locations".
New software will also extend the battery life of consumers' phones by up to 50 per cent, du said in a statement.
