Abu Dhabi-based investment firm Tawazun Holding has awarded the engineering company Dar Al Handasah a contract to design a cityscape that simulates disaster scenarios. It is set for completion in the fourth quarter of 2018, the company said yesterday.
Tawazun Safety Security and Disaster Management City (Jaheziya) is a unit of Tawazun that is developing one million square metres in Musaffah, south of Abu Dhabi, for training for complex disaster situations, the company. It did not disclose the value of the project or the contract.
Design work is projected to finish by the end of this year and tenders for construction are expected to be released early next year.
“Our nation is growing at a fast pace and the geopolitical developments in the region are strengthening our resolve to locally provide the training facilities at Jaheziya on time by the fourth quarter of 2018,” said Ali Mohamed Musleh Al Ahbabi, the chairman of Jaheziya. “The project is in line with our government’s vision to enhance the nation’s capability to protect its people and assets.”
In July, Jaheziya appointed the engineering design group AECOM Technology as consultant for the project.
Prospective clients include state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Abu Dhabi Ports Company, the UAE Navy, the UAE Armed Forces and Etihad Rail, the federal railway company.
The project is aimed to simulate potential crisis scenarios – re-enact past incidents and simulate future natural and man-made events with the help of personnel from the armed forces, civil defence agencies, health authorities, humanitarian groups, non-governmental organisations and other agencies.
