Domino's Pizza:

Domino's is the market leader in the organised pizza market in India, with more than 50 per cent market share in restaurant sales and 70 per cent share in home deliveries, according to Technopak analysis.

There are more than 400 Domino's stores in India, but the group plans to expand further.

India is the fifth-largest market for the American company after the US, Britain, Mexico and Australia.

Last year, Domino's reported global sales of US$6.2bn (Dh22.77bn), with sales from India contributing about $250m, or about 4 per cent of its total global sales.

The group is known for its aggressive expansion and in the past 15 months has added 100 outlets.

Domino's has more than 9,000 outlets worldwide.

An average takeout pizza at Domino's in India costs $3 to $4.

In some outlets in India, Domino's has revived a practice it dropped in the US: the 30-minutes-or-free-delivery guarantee.

Pizza Hut:

Pizza Hut is number two in India's pizza market, with more than 130 outlets.

India is one of Pizza Hut's three highest-priority markets. Its projections call for 300 outlets by the end of next year.

Pizza Hut says that in some stores as much as 50 per cent of sales come from deliveries, and 10 of its outlets are takeout only.

The company is a subsidiary of Yum, the world's largest restaurant company.

According to its corporate website, it has about 13,000 outlets in 95 countries and territories.

Yumreported global sales of more than $11bn last year. No breakdown for India was available.

Pizza Hut's average meal costs about $6.50. It offers a four-course meal for two that includes a chicken tikka pan pizza, garlic bread, tomato soup and mango ice cream.

Both chains are growing rapidly: Pizza Hut reports 30 per cent year-on-year sales growth in India; Domino's says its growth is above 50 per cent.
