Airbus is suspending production at plants in the US and Germany as part of the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic.

The company said commercial aircraft production and assembly would be paused at the German sites in Bremen and Stade, and at Mobile in the US state of Alabama.

The suspension includes work on the A220 and A320 models.

The production pause in Bremen will be from April 6 to April 27, although some support work will continue there.

In Stade, the suspension will initially be until April 11 with extra pause days in the following weeks. Again, key support services will continue.

Social distancing at work

In Mobile, the pause in production begins this week and is expected to last until 29 April.

All continuing work at each plant will follow local or national hygiene and social-distancing guidelines.

Airbus said the pause in production was because of high inventory levels and government recommendations and requirements that affect production.

In the past two weeks, Airbus also paused production and assembly work in France and Spain for four days.

The company said production and assembly in France resumed gradually since March 23.
